Renee Villanueva M.Ed, L.M.F.T. – Child and Family Therapist

Empathetic and attuned, Renee Villanueva takes a client-centered approach in helping families find hope and practical solutions to problems. She provides a safe place for kids to process experiences and supports families through healing.

Her areas of interest include:

  • Utilizing expressive therapies, such as art and play therapy, to build connections with children and work through problems
  • Addressing anxiety and depression in children and adolescents
  • Using systems theory to help families create healthy relationships and interrupt problem dynamics
  • Helping children heal from traumatic and abusive experiences

Experience

Renee spent 15 years providing care to children at Jasper Mountain SAFE Center as a member of the treatment team, then as a therapist and finally as assistant director. She also spent five years in private practice, offering outpatient therapy to children and families, before joining Thrive.

Education

Renee earned dual bachelor’s degrees in psychology and sociology at the University of Oregon. Continuing her studies at UO, she received her Masters of Education in marriage and family therapy. While in college, Renee completed internships at Kids First Safe Alternatives Center, Center for Family Therapy and Jasper Mountain SAFE Center.

Personal interests

Renee plays on two ultimate frisbee teams and is a dedicated runner and mountain climber. She enjoys spending time with her two kids, often hiking and walking the family’s three rescue dogs.
